YMCA Mental Health Series Flyer

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina and Novant Health are pleased to invite high school students to virtually join us on February 17, March 17, and April 21 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. as we explore some of the most requested mental health topics.  The free monthly Teen Talk Series are led by licensed Novant Health therapists; however, they are not therapy sessions.  If a teen and their family need mental health resources or have any questions about Teen Talks, please email Erin Bracey, Director of Teen Mental Health at e.bracey@ymcanwnc.org. 

Teens and their parent(s)/guardian(s) must scan the QR code on the flyer to register for each session or simply click the link below each session description to register.  The Teen Talk topics will be:

Taking the Difficult Out of Hard Conversations

Talking about hard things can be…well, hard. How do you open up to your people when you’re struggling? How do you check in on people when you see they’re having a hard time? Come learn what makes these conversations hard, why they’re so important to have, and tools on how to have them.

Chill Skills: Handling Life Without Losing It

Life can be really stressful. School, friends, family, the future, expectations…it’s a lot. No one “just knows” how to handle all this! Luckily, there are lots of ways to cope with all the things life throws at you. The same thing doesn’t work for everyone, so come learn a bunch of skills you can try to handle life without losing it.

Perfectly Imperfect: Embracing Growth & Self-Compassion

There’s lots of pressure to be perfect. We know it’s not possible to be perfect, but we still somehow feel like we should. Not only is perfection not possible, it’s really toxic. This talk will explore how to identify unrealistic expectations and how to change your mindset in a way that is actually helpful.

Teen participants will also have a chance to win some fantastic raffle prizes, including a PlayStation 5 or a Nintendo Switch 2 (teens must attend all 3 Teen Talks to be eligible).  We will also have $500 worth of gift cards to raffle off for any teen that attends at least 2 sessions.

The Fulton Family YMCA will be open from 4:45 -6:00 p.m. for any teen that needs a safe space to attend the virtual sessions (February 17, March 17, and April 21).
